We didn't know what to expect when we arrived at the Jayleen 1918 but we were in for a big surprise. I say "when" because the taxi driver had no idea where the hotel was and it took a phone call to his mate to point him in the right direction. You could go straight past the hotel because the signage out front leaves a lot to be desired. The hotel reception didn't turn us on but when we walked into our room - and it was 1.30 in the morning - we thought "wow". Okay the room was small, but everything about it was clean and the hotel left no stone unturned to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Our towels were replaced every day and bottled water was replenished each day. After all, you don't go to Singapore to sit in your room all day. Breakfast was included and while nothing flash it was sufficient to kickstart our day. The rooftop with its panoramic view of Singapore was the ideal place to sit at night and cool off with a few beers. Position wise it was just great. A five minute walk to the river with all the restaurants and only a 10 minute stroll to Chinatown. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our 6 night stay at the Jayleen 1918.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Meals at Clarke Quay aren't cheap so it pays to look around as there are plenty of other good restaurants.

Centrally located hotel

The 1918 Jayleen Hotel is conveniently located near Clark Quay MRT station which makes it easily accessible to other parts of the city. The room was very small and generally okay, however the main drawback was that there was no window which diminished the quality and amenity of the room. Had I known this I would have not stayed at the hotel. The breakfast was adequate and there is free internet access. The 3pm check in time is quite late especially if you arrive in Singapore on an early morning flight like I did, and they would not allow me to check in any earlier. As a result of this, and the lack of a window in the room I was a bit disappointed with my stay at the hotel.
