Bright, airy and handy

A very "different" hotel, with all the usual amenities ... except a pool! Wouldn't you think in a city with the temperature and humidity of Singapore that a good hotel would have a pool to cool down in? That said, the brightness of the retro decor made you feel alive and happy just to be there, and the staff were extremely courteous and helpful. Our room in April was very small, however the one we had in July was above average size, and very comfortable with bushy views of Pearls Hill. The only complaints we had were that the discount vouchers they supplied on arrival for the Re!Fill restaurant and the Re!Wine bar, were not accepted by the restaurant for their drinks ... only at the bar on the 2nd floor. As Hotel Re! (and Singapore) drink prices are pretty exorbitant (at $13 for a glass of beer or wine), it would have been good if the restaurant had accepted the drink voucher with our dinner. We also discovered that if you pay for brekkie at the restaurant it costs $49 (for 2), but if you book it through the reception desk it is $35 ... a huge difference that is not explained up front! We found it confusing that pretty much all advertising in Singapore, on Internet and at restaurants etc, fails to include their GST (7%) or Service Charge (10%). Yes, you need to add 17% to any price you see advertised, and no, you shouldn't tip for services, as they've already tacked it onto your bill! Room Tip: Ours on the 8th floor (807) facing the hill was large and beautiful!

Good value, fun, comfortable & friendly

After much searching decided on Hotel Re! for our trip. Funky themed decor and no really bad reviews appealed, together with price. Our room was a deluxe, not big but a very comfortable king bed (two singles together which didn't separate), great shower in a clean bathroom, plenty of storage, in-room safe, good wifi, overlooking the park. Don't worry about room being too bright, it's great. Don't need to wait for the mirror in the bathroom. You can use the shiny surface walls as your mirror to get ready!!. Reception staff were friendly & helpful, shuttle bus every 20 mins to MRT is a great service with a polite driver. Although only a short walk, it's uphill coming back so may not suit some & would recommend using airport shuttle on arrival with luggage. We arrived 4pm and got special rate $3 pp to the hotel!!! We walked mostly & felt very safe even at night. Of course, exercise usual care. Tourists everywhere, so don't worry about pulling out a map. Singaporeans are very friendly and often asked if they could help. Even had an umbrella given to us by a rail employee for our bus trip to & from Changi chapel on a rainy day, just so we could go. We were going to head back. So nice! Can walk to nearby attractions or it's only one or two MRT stations. Restaurant is convenient on arrival but meals were quite disappointing & staff were polite but only communicated if asked a question, otherwise stood silent (need personality to go with great music they play). Hot water for tea/coffee at breakfast was very cold and they weren't busy at all. Tried lamb cutlets for something different but they were tough and not cheap. Hotel offers discounts on meals for guests and It has great music playing all day/night though which complements the hotel theme and gives it a nice atmosphere, especially for "baby boomers" who remember 50s - 70s. Complimentary wifi in the foyer is convenient & easy. Bathroom toiletries etc are excellent, as were daily room service staff. Water is drinkable, however, complimentary bottled water is supplied daily. If not staying with a partner you might find the frosted glass door on the bathroom/toilet a little less private than you'd like. Complimentary mini bar is only in higher priced rooms. Fitness fans will enjoy the park out the back door for their daily fix, as will those looking for a quiet fresh air walk. It's also nice to look out from big glass windows. The park has interesting history, good photo opportunities and is bigger than you think; don't forget to make time to check it out! Didn't check the gym but equipment sounds limited. The Re! theme is carried throughout and is refreshingly different. We enjoyed our stay.

Don't go to Melacca on the weekend or school holidays. The traffic is horrendous!! 8 hr trip one way! Buy EZ link travel card for train, buses etc, although public transport is very cheap anyway if you don't.

Fun place with atmosphere

Hotel Re! was a fun place to stay with 50s - 90s style music playing each day and night in the restaurant & the retro theme throughout, even in the lifts. Reception staff were very helpful and cheery. Our room wasn't spacious but clean and we had a big comfy bed, clean linen almost daily, every bathroom amenity & great shower pressure & hot water. Service staff were eager to please & very courteous. We looked over the park which was nice & actually has lots of history. It's interesting to walk through. The restaurant food was a little ordinary but convenient. The shuttle bus is handy with a nice polite driver, although it's only a short walk to the station. Good value for one extra station from Chinatown & minutes from anywhere. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you Hotel Re!

Don't plan the day trip to Melacca on a weekend, or school holiday. Book in advance. We took 8 hours to get there instead of about 4 because we had to go on a Saturday which was also the start of school holidays which didn't show up on any events calendar. Lunch was included which we had at 4pm!! Got home at 2am!! Long queues for border crossings on weekends or any holidays. We did have a good time once there, even though our bus broke down & we had to wait extra time. No queues on the way home at midnight (lol).

Resonable Hotel

Rooms a bit small but this does tend to happen in asian countries. Staff were friendly and helpful. We arrived early in the morning. They held our bags for a while, then got us into our room 3 hours before normal check in. Clean and tidy and plenty of amenity kits in the bathroom.

Great clean hotel

This was an exceptionally clean and modern Hotel. It has a retro feel and has contemporary furnishing. It's located near China Town and if you don't mind a little walk up a small hill, it's great. There are free shuttle buses so getting around is convenient. There is also free wifi in the rooms! Brilliant stay, would stay again.

A Pleasant Surprise

We only stayed the one night at this retro hotel and it was a very pleasant experience. The room was very spacious on Singapore standards with lovely appointments. On arrival you even receive a complimentary tray of soft drinks, snacks, chocolate bar and cookies. The bedroom was separate from the entry area and overall the suite had ample storage. Clean and modern. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent value accommodation in a city where hotel prices are becoming fairly expensive for 3 and 4 star holiday makers. We would definitely go back to Hotel Re Pearls Hill for a longer stay.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

I had read that this hotel was not in a handy location but our taxi driver, when taking us to the airport, advised us that it was less than 10 minutes walk to China Town. Taxis are quite inexpensive and plentiful in Singapore so location is definitely not an issue.

Great price for Singapore, good location, small rooms

Stayed there for two days. The positives: - good location: in walking distance of Robertson Quay (many restaurants/bars) and China Town - quiet environment - very friendly hotel staff (many 5 star hotels could learn from that!) - good amenities in the room for a budget hotel (shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, cotton buds, comb, toothbrush, slippers... really everything) - free WIFI & bottles of water The negatives: - very small room: ok for one person for a short stay, for two people it could be a bit annoying - air conditioner very loud, I ended up turning it off to be able to sleep but as a result the room heated up over night - WIFI rather slow for uploading (tried to get an email with a 1MB attachment out and it took the better part of an hour. For normal surfing the speed is however good enough So all in all positive, but of course do not expect big luxury, not for that price in a rather central location.
