Mixed Experience (Disappointing Surprise Staycation)

Planning a surprise staycation (intending to blind fold and bring my other half into the room and surprise) so I called the hotel a day earlier to check if an earlier check was possible. Fair feedback received that an earlier check in cannot be guaranteed. Hence, I came in 2.50pm on the actual day (check in time 3pm). Apparently there was some form of issue prevalent leading to an hour's wait prior to being able to check in at 3.50pm. Surprise element was gone. Quite surprised to be informed that the verdandah suite I booked was not available. But it was nice for the hotel to get an upgrade to terrace section (the room was nice and good). The room however came with no coffee cups and also the TV remote control. Contacted in error room service dept and was informed they will contact the housekeeping. After a fruitless wait of 20-25mins, I called up house keeping to inform of situation. Waited for another 20mins, we decided to just go off. Definitely give my compliments to your service staff at tier bar (waiter/bar tender), forgot to get her name 11pm 10jan tier bar. She was really polite and pleasant in her service. After a nice drink, we decided to head back to our room for a nice dip in the bath tub. After leaving the tap on for 20mins, the water level came up only slightly higher than ankle level. We checked the stopper, and it seemed fine. After another fruitless wait of 20 mins, we gave up the bath tub dip idea. Lastly, we enquired with a front desk staff if our room (providing our room number to staff) had complimentary breakfast. We received a yes responsive. However in the next morning, we were told we did not have. It was a nice morning, I did not want to spoil it over a meaningless discussion if there was complimentary breakfast or not. We just let it be charged to the room. Provided feedback at the front desk counter during check out, but was received with lukewarm and general response. Did follow up with email feedback to the hotel, however as to date (4 days after email was sent) no response or even a holding response was obtained. Nice rooom with nice ambience. Sad for the definitely disappointing service and followup.

Anniversary Staycation Trip

We booked the premier room with a garden view. I thought it was quite sweet to have a couch beside the window where you lay there to enjoy the sunlight in the day. Another thing i like was the complimentary kachang puteh snacks and drinks. you get something to munch on while you take a stroll out of the hotel. :) However, there were some things that kind of made this trip less enjoyable. 1) the shuttle bus does not wait. we missed the bus by just 1 minute and gotta wait for another 20 mins for the next bus. while waiting, we saw the shuttle buses from other hotels which actually do wait at the pick up point for at least 5 mins before they leave. 2) long check-in time. we waited around 15 mins to check-in as there were no clean rooms available at that time, which i find it strange since the stated check-in time is 3pm, the rooms should be ready by then and we were there around 4pm yet the room was not ready. 3) the mini bar (ie. fridge) was not working. there was a note on the fridge that this mini bar should not be mistaken as a fridge. so we thought that explains why it's not cold inside at all. we were quite disappointed as we bought cheesecakes and chocolates before that to celebrate our anniversary but we have nowhere to chill it. 4) the rooms were not properly cleaned up. when we went into the room, the rubbish bin had some rubbish and a rotten apple left over by the previous guest. and even on the second day of our stay, the beds were made but the rubbish were still not cleared. oh, and there were some spots of blood stains in the shower area that kinda freak me out. 5) the sky pool was kind of milky in colour and it's quite small. so we did not swim in the end. we went to another hotel for dinner and saw that the swimming pool over there is much nicer and cleaner than our hotel. 5) disclaimer first, i'm a little picky about this point, but just something that i thought the hotel could go the extra mile. we saw that the hotel has a few buggy, but they do not provide buggy ride. i mean it's just a 5-10 mins walk from the hotel to the main road to take the sentosa bus, but the route between the hotel and the bus stop outside is quite dark at night. it would be nice if the hotel could provide the buggy ride to the nearest bus stop or train station, since i notice the buggy were not in used most of the time anyway. haha. :P this is the first time i'm staying in sentosa, so i can't really make the comparison with other hotels in sentosa. since this is a five star hotel, i kind of had a high expectation for it. hence, the little things that the hotel missed out kind of explained my lower rating for it.

A day away from a hectic lifestyle

This was my 1st stay in this hotel. Ambience was good. Room very big, cosy & clean. Bed was very comfortable. My room was on ground floor. Early morning while the cleaner swiping the garden it was abit nosy. Such a nice, cosy 5 star hotel I was surprised that the shower head was leaking, and the stand was loosen. Guess it's high time to do some maintainance to the room. Other than this the rest was close to perfect. Guess I will go back again if I need a short break from my hectic lifestyle from the city. I gives a thump up for this hotel.

Responsiveness and amenities

Responsiveness of staff should be improved. Staff was slow in responding to check-in. had to wait for almost 45minutes before a senior staff member came over and solved the problem in a few minutes. Superior room did not have wifi access. Recommend for Amara Sanctuary to enhance its wifi system to all rooms

Hardly 5-Star

Let's start with some positives - cleverly converted ex-colonial army barracks; quaintly decorated rooms with some nice touches that remind you of old Singapore, coupled with modern amenities (including a Nespresso machine); good gym; and pleasantly landscaped grounds. The rest of it was horrible. The room was filthy and frankly quite badly maintained. When we checked in, there was broken glass on the floor (fortunately in a corner, so we didn't cut ourselves); there were stains/burn marks on the TV console/table top; the curtains were stained; the bathroom smelt funny and its floor was stained; there was sand in the shower stall, the lovely white European style free-standing bath tub was splotchy on the inside; the Nespresso machine wasn’t quite working; the fridge stank and was grimey; half of the cutlery was missing (2 cups but only 1 saucer etc); the bathrobe was slightly torn. The standard of service was dismal, shocking. Generally rude and unpolished, with 2 or 3 exceptions. In terms of value-for-money, Amara Sanctuary, in my opinion, ranks poorly. At more than SGD 500 (roughly USD 400, or GBP 250), you’d expect more or at the very least clean rooms. We’ve stayed in possibly 10 other 5-star hotels in Singapore, and Amara Sanctuary is clearly the worst. I will never stay in this property again and if you were looking for luxury accommodation in this island city, you might want to consider the many other better options.

Private and romance

I got the Villa room which has a private pool, we enjoyed it well with my girlfriend there! Superior privacy, quiet, and the rooms are clean with all we need. It's a little pricy compare to the same in Bali and Puket, but considering it's in a city like Singapore with all the Universal Studio and Aquarium around, a nice combo! Walking distance to beach is about 7 min which is not bad!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Need to take a train from Imbiah to Waterfront the Universal Studio, can reach there in about 15 min door to door, not too bad.
