Sultan Mosque hotels
The Sultan Mosque may be one of the most original mosques in the world. This Singapore mosque was designed by an Irish architect, Dennis Santry. Built largely upon the donations of the people, there are such delights as glass bottles that support the golden dome because the poor sold glass bottles to raise money for the building. The mosque is still welcoming to all guests regardless of economic class, and has special hours for non-Islamic visitors. The Sultan Mosque is a must-see site in Singapore for both its beauty and welcoming style. Learn what Islam is really all about by visiting this mosque.
- Enjoy the delicacies sold to break the fasts of Ramadan in the Sultan Mosque in the evenings and see how those who can't pay are served in the welcoming spirit of the mosque.
- Visit during Hari Raya Haji or the Festival of Sacrifice, where lambs are sacrificed and there is a special emphasis on serving the poor of Singapore.
- Arrange a special guided tour of the mosque and take in not only the art and architecture, but also the practice of Islam in Singapore at the Sultan Mosque.
Sultan Mosque is in Kampong Glen and is boxed by four streets: North Bridge Road, Kandahar Street, Baghdad Street, and Arab Street. It is accessed at Bugis MRT station from exit E, which leads you to Victoria Street. Turn left on Victoria street and you will come to Arab Street. Turn right and you will walk straight to the mosque. If the MRT is not to your liking, you can take a taxi, which will take you directly to the mosque.
