St. Andrew’s Cathedral
The 19th-century St. Andrew’s Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in the heart of Singapore. A central feature of the downtown business district, the cathedral is the oldest in Singapore as well as the largest. This neo-Gothic masterpiece mimics design aspects from a ruined 13th-century English church, whilst its towering white steeple and majestic archways make an impressive addition to the skyline of the city. This national monument is not only an architectural marvel, but also a structure that represents the diversity and multiculturalism that makes Singapore such an interesting place to visit.
- Watch a performance of the St. Andrew’s Cathedral Choir, the oldest musical institution in Singapore and one of the most popular church choirs in the world.
- Enter the nave of St. Andrew’s Cathedral where you will be awestruck by the austere white columns and archways that flank the pews, as well as the stained glass windows above.
- Attend a Sunday service to witness the ceremonies that have made the cathedral a centre for Christianity in Singapore.
Singapore features some of the most efficient public transportation in the world and the St. Andrew’s Cathedral is in the heart of it. The cathedral is just a short walk from the City Hall MRT station, which is a major interchange and hub for travellers to the central business district. The cathedral does have on-site parking, which is limited, so visitors are advised to take the MRT and make the short walk. From Singapore’s Changi Airport, take one of the many shuttles to the train, where you can find a transfer to the MRT.
