Chinatown Heritage Centre
The Chinatown Heritage Centre is located on Pagoda Street, just left of the Chinatown MRT train station, in Singapore. It is an exceptional museum that chronicles stories and memories of the lives of the early residents of the Chinatown district. The Centre, housed in three striking, authentically refurbished shophouses, provides visitors insight into the diverse cultural heritage and history of Chinatown. The Centre hosts special events throughout the year and provides guided group tours. Located within the vicinity of other popular attractions, including Clarke Quay and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, this museum is a great stop for Singapore visitors.
- Purchase souvenirs and mementos at the Chinatown Heritage Centre gift shop, which offers handmade crafts, shophouse carvings, and traditional toys such as kuti-kuti.
- Visit Singapore's many popular hawker centres near the Centre, such as the Chinatown Complex Food Centre and Maxwell Road Food Centre where travellers can enjoy cheap, authentic, street-style Chinese cuisine.
- Visit the refurbished Thian Hock Keng Temple in Singapore, a Hokkien temple that features an intricate, brightly coloured facade that includes impressive granite columns ornamented with dragons.
Many visitors arrive to the Changi International Airport, located about 40 minutes away from Singapore's Central Business District. Transportation throughout the city is inexpensive, easy, and efficient. The Chinatown Heritage Centre is easily accessed using the Mass Rapid Transport to the Chinatown MRT Station. Visitors may also take the public bus routes via the New Bridge Road Bus Terminal. This is the cheapest option for exploring the city. The Singapore Tourist Pass offers visitors unlimited bus and MRT rides. Travellers can also use taxis or rent a car, though be advised that parking charges are expensive.
