National Library hotels
The National Library of Singapore, consisting of the Lee Kong Chain Reference Library and Central Public Library collections, is located at the city’s Arts, Culture, Learning and Entertainment centre. This 15-storey modern library merges the history, geography, government, and culture of Singapore in exhibits that clarify and investigate each subject in staggering detail. Designed using bioclimatic techniques supporting “green” architecture, the library uses technology that efficiently utilises the daylight, rain, and cool weather to maintain the building’s peaceful and knowledgeable demeanour. The National Library has a lot to offer to any visitor to Singapore’s richly cultural central districts, and provides an attractive balance of beauty, technology, and wonder.
- Watch local performances of world-renowned plays, concerts, and musicals by the National Arts Council in the Drama Centre, which occupies the third, fourth, and fifth storeys of the National Library.
- See the National Library of Singapore up-close and personal with a guided tour from the bottom to the top of this 15-storey “green” architectural marvel.
- Bring a light lunch to the Retreat or Courtyard gardens, and sit amongst the pleasant foliage when reading a book and looking over the skyline of Singapore.
The National Library of Singapore is on Victoria St., and stands as a steel and glass wonder, and is not to be missed. Bus stops are not far from the library and are just a 5 to 15-minute walk to the entrance from St. Joseph Church stop on Bus 01013, or the Cosmic Insurance Building stop on Bus 01029. Car parking is provided for an hourly charge during the week, with a fee that varies depending on the time of day. You might rent a motorcycle if you’re feeling a little dangerous, or simply be one of the pedestrians you’re trying to dodge, to enjoy this bustling area more personally.
