Merlion Statue hotels
The Merlion Statue is a sculpture in Singapore that depicts the mystical beast that has the head of lion and a body of a fish. The merlion is the national symbol of Singapore, as the fish body is a nod to the country’s fishing past and the lion head comes from the original name of the city that translates to “Lion City.” The Merlion Statue was situated at the mouth of the Singapore River, but had to be relocated after a new bridge obstructed the view. Now it is the centrepiece of Merlion Park at the front of Marina Bay.
- Admire the original Merlion Statue that stands more than eight metres high and is flanked by a smaller merlion cub statue at the centre of Merlion Park in Singapore.
- Read the poem by Edwin Thumboo, a famous and celebrated poet in Singapore, that adorns the Merlion Statue and tells the story of the mythical beast and its importance in traditional myth.
- Take a ride on the Ferris Wheel at Marina Bay and you will be afforded amazing views of the Merlion Statue as well as the rest of the central business district of Singapore.
The Merlion Statue is located at the heart of the central business district of Singapore, so it is not hard to reach using the efficient network of public transportation. The best way to get there is to use the Singapore MRT and get off at the Raffles Place station. After exiting, just follow the signs for the Fullerton Hotel, where the Merlion Statue is located. This area of the city is perfect for exploring on foot, as there are plenty of pedestrian-only paths that go along the bay, offering spectacular views, especially at night.
