Jurong Industrial Estate hotels
Jurong Industrial Estate
The name “Jurong” is most likely derived from a Malay word, “jerung,” meaning “shark.” With the quickness of a shark, Jurong Industrial Estate in Singapore sprung up and where there previously was swampland, plantation farms, fish and prawn ponds, and rivers full of crocodiles, 650 operating factories and 20,000 flats materialised between 1962 and 1976. From the 1970s to the 1990s, recreational facilities and residential areas were added to Jurong Industrial Estate, and it is now a self-sufficient town with supermarkets, schools, malls, libraries, as well as tourist attractions and a public transportation system.
