Haw Par Villa, Singapore
What was originally founded as a British training colony in 1819, Singapore has become one of the world’s most prosperous countries. The city-state is split into several districts including Marina Bay, Chinatown and Little India. The1937-built Haw Par Villa is a theme park located on Pasir Panjang Road. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, the park is based on Chinese mythology containing over 1000 statues and other scenes from the country’s history and folklore. North and western districts of Singapore are known for places such as the zoo and bird park that are teaming with wildlife.
- Visit some of Haw Par Villa’s main attractions including the statues of the Laughing Buddha and the Goddess of Mercy.
- Take a detour and visit Singapore’s Haven (now the Salvation Army), and the Pasir Panjang Park, which was established before World War II and the Pasir Panjang Pillbox – a concrete machine gun pillbox that was built before the Japanese invaded Singapore.
- See the park’s dioramas that depict scenes from Chinese legend, folklore and history; the most famous of which is the depiction of the Ten Courts of Hell in Chinese Mythology.
