Sagene is the smallest borough of Oslo, Norway, but is also one of its most interesting. Sagene has a long history and did not become part of Oslo until 1859, when industries like paper mills were established in the area. This is why Sagene is referred to as the "cradle of industrialism" in Norway, as some of the oldest industrial buildings in the entire country are located there. Now most of the industry is gone and Sagene has become a quiet residential neighbourhood with plenty of public green spaces, popular among Oslo visitors.
- Catch an exciting Skeid football match while in Sagene and enjoy watching some of the best athletes in the country as they compete for the second division title.
- Take a stroll through Bjølsenparken Park, and enjoy walking up a beautiful path, lined with linden trees, that offers great local scenery and views of Oslo.
- Visit the Sagene Church that was built in the late 19th century to admire one of the best examples of neo-Gothic architecture in all of Oslo.
Oslo has a modern system of public transportation and excellently maintained roads, so it is not hard to access Sagene from anywhere in the city. The easiest way to get there from the Oslo city centre is by bus. Visitors should take the number 37 or 54 bus, which provides service all the way to Sagene. The borough is very small, so it is easy to get around on foot and there are plenty of places to hike. Cycling is also popular in Oslo, and guests will see citizens riding bikes all over the city.
