Helsfyr is a borough of Oslo, Norway that is situated in the eastern portion of the city. It is largely known for its subway station that functions as one of the main transportation hubs in the area. Helsfyr is mostly a quiet residential neighbourhood with plenty of green spaces and natural beauty. Most of the attractions and commercial interests are near the Helsfyr Train Station and visitors will find plenty of shopping opportunities and restaurants within walking distance of the underground stop. There are also several interesting museums nearby making this a great place to explore.
- Head to Valle Hovin near the Helsfyr station and you can see a local concert or glide around the ice-rink, a great way to spend an afternoon in Oslo.
- Explore the creepy grounds of the Ostre Gravlund, also called the Eastern Cemetery, and you can see interesting gravesites that date back several hundred years, including some of Oslo’s most famous citizens.
- Go to the nearby Munch Museum while in Helsfyr and you can appreciate the artwork of Edvard Munch, one of the most influential painters of the 19th century.
The Helsfyr subway station is on the eastern line of the Oslo Metro, so the easiest way to get there is to just take the subway and get off at the Helsfyr station. You can also get bus service from the central terminal in Oslo directly to the area. Once there, most of the attractions are near the train station so you can simple walk to your final destination. There are also places to hire bicycles for those that would like to ride, and the locale has plenty of dedicated paths to rid on.
