Bodo General Information
The primary hub of Nordland county Norway is a terrific small city to consider on any tour of Nordic Europe. Bodo is home to about 50,000 people and rolls out a magnificent array of heritage monuments, landmarks and vital cultural institutions. Of course, natural scenery is a top draw in this pristine, unspoilt enclave of Norway and indeed, Bodo delivers on that front with picture-postcard geography galore.
Though north of the Arctic Circle, Bodo’s peninsula position features a remarkably mild climate, with minimal snowfall and winter temperatures that a city like Montreal, New York City or even Helsinki would love to have. The town is famously windy however but for most, the trade-off is well worth it. Summer visitors marvel at Bodo’s incessant midnight sun from early June to early July, a time when locals let loose and bask on patios. Phenomenal points of interest include the Salten Museum, Bodo Cathedral and Bodosjoen Friluftsmuseum. These and other attractions convey the essence of Bodo and Nordland culture. The handsome town also features a first-class ensemble of shops, restaurants, bars and pubs that altogether, enliven the innate conviviality of Bodo even further. Throughout the summer numerous music and cultural festivals abound and the vast, awesome landscape outside of Bodo opens up for comfortable reconnaissance expeditions.
