In the summer months of December through February, average temperatures range from 59°F (15°C) to 73°F (23°C). As for June through August, the average winter temperatures measure between 41°F (5°C) and 55°F (13°C). The town of Oamaru receives about 20-24 inches (508-610 mm) of rain annually.

Sitting on the larger of the two islands of New Zealand, Oamaru can be reached by planes flying into Christchurch International Airport, Timaru Airport or Oamaru Airport. Depending on the airport, trains, buses, hired cars and even ferries will help tourists reach Oamaru.
