Great service & hotel, shame about the roadworks blocking the easy access to the car park, but would definitely stay here again.

Excellent Auckland stopover

We flew into Auckland, spent three nights at the Sofitel Viaduct Harbour and returned to Australia by cruise ship. This Sofitel lives up to its 5 star rating. The hotel staff were just great. Public areas, restaurants and bars are very stylish and comfortable. The rooms are large and welcoming, well maintained and with an excellent bathroom. Ours had a large shower and full size bath. The bed was so comfortable and the room was quiet allowing restful sleep. Restaurant food is expensive but the service is impeccable. There is a small breakfast bar / café with outdoor tables where reasonably priced breakfast / snacks can be bought. The Bircher muesli is the best we have ever tried. If you don't wish to eat in the hotel, there are many eateries within a ten minute walk. Taxis are readily available at the Foyer and there is an ATM directly across the street.

beautiful hotel in perfect location

We expect a hotel calling themselves a "Sofitel" to be perfect, and this one is stunning. There were a few improvements that need to be made though for it to be a home run. Alas, we waited 25 minutes for a cup of coffee after we ordered it during a business meeting in an area by the lobby. Another time we had to find the server to get our bill after finishing and waiting another 20 minutes. Another time I asked something be printed and ready in 30 minutes. It was not done however, because the server was so slow the front desk person didn't receive it within that time. Then it took another 15 minutes after we resent it, keeping my business appointment person waiting. The staff does not seem trained as good as the Amora Hotel in Wellington where we stayed before coming to Sofitel in Auckland. But if we were only on a pleasure trip, maybe we would not have noticed how slow the internet and service was.. It was just a bit irritating because it was a business trip, and I expected perfect service from a Sofitel.

Very luxurious experience

The view from our "superior" room was a little disappointing, everything else about our stay was excellent. The staff are wonderful.

Unpleasant at first

When we checked in, greeted by friendly staff and I thought it will be good from now on. Checked into room and it was hot like a dessert, it was hot and unbearable! Managed to get a housekeeper who happened to walk past wanting to do a turn down service and even they were shocked with the room temperature. She played with the air com dial, offered us bottles of water clearly seeing us sweating and then left. Then came a porter after calling the reception, he then played with the ac dial and clearly no one on the hotel knew how to fix it....next problem is the room safe is broken and porter can't fix it. Gave reception another call and pleaded for a room change since we have been sweating in the heated room for 45 mins. So after 3 calls to reception, 3 service staff playing with air con dial, we managed to get a room change after one hour.

Typical Sofitel

Another beautiful Sofitel property, conveniently located with everything you'd expect from the brand. Rooms on the small side and staff not as attentive as other Sofitel properties I have stayed at but still, a great hotel.
