Western Springs hotels
Whilst it was once an Auckland waterworks in the 19th and early 20th centuries, Western Springs is now a scenic rural suburb that appeals strongly to nature lovers and families who desire a pleasant holiday in the beautiful countryside. Western Springs Park boasts a large lake that is home to numerous waterfowl in the spring and summer. There are many walking and hiking trails through the picturesque park landscape, the bridges and islands of the lake, and the board walk snaking along the surrounding marshlands. The Chamberlain Park Golf Course is also nearby, ready to provide eighteen leisurely holes.
- Enjoy rugby games, summer motor speedway races, and year-round concerts and festivals at the Western Springs Stadium.
- Meet Burma the Asian elephant and the hippos Faith and Fudge as you enjoy a pint-sized safari in the Pridelands exhibit at the Auckland Zoo, which also features a large variety of exotic birds and primates.
- Explore the impressive exhibits at the Auckland Museum of Transport and Technology, which boasts one of the Southern Hemisphere's largest aviation displays and many other impressive collections related to transportation and industrial technologies.
Auckland International Airport is only 22 kilometres from Western Springs via State Highway 20. You can hire a car for the day for the same cost as a taxi fare from the airport, but a cheaper transport alternative is the Airbus that travels to the city centre or one of the shuttle services that travel to the suburbs. If you are not flying into Auckland, the InterCity Coachlines and Overlander trains connect Auckland to many other New Zealand cities. There are a number of city bus lines that offer inexpensive public transport around Western Springs.
