Getting There & Around
Ashburton is only about an hour from Christchurch. Those flying to the island will arrive at Christchurch International Airport. The city can also be reached on Route 77 from Methven. Several bus companies also offer city-to-city transportation, though most will depart from Christchurch, Timaru or Wanaka.
It is easiest to get around town if you have your own car, as there are no regular bus runs. There are many coach companies that offer shuttles and buses for group tours. Bicycles are another option during the warmer months, though the roads do not have large shoulders and a helmet and high-visibility gear are required.
