Apeldoorn is a large industrial town in the Netherlands known for its famous former residents, William and Mary of the royal House of Orange-Nassau. Winter days in Apeldoorn grow short toward the end of December, when there is only eight hours of daylight and temperatures can drop below freezing. Summers are warm with highs around 21-23°C from July to August. You will need to visit in the spring if you want to see the tulips in bloom.
Getting There & Around
The A1 Motorway will take you right into Apeldoorn. The extensive rail system connects to the town's three train stations from Amsterdam, which is 93 km away. The Netherland's capital city also has the nearest international airport.
You can get around Apeldoorn quickly and cheaply using the Syntus city bus system. There are bicycle rentals available at the train stations as well.
