Van Gogh Museum
The Van Gogh Museum exhibits the largest collection of post-impressionist works by the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, as well as a whole collection of essential works by his contemporaries, influences, and followers. In life, Van Gogh’s art was relatively unknown, but today his work is prized as some of the most innovative (and priceless) and housed prominently here in Amsterdam. The Dutch government commissioned Dutch architect GerritRietveld to design the museum in Amsterdam, which was completed after his death in 1973, but the building retains his simplistic vision in the main structure, and an expansion wing for special exhibitions was added in 1999. This museum is one of the best concentrated art galleries in the world and is a treat for any visitor in Amsterdam.
- Relax at special night events with live music and art held on Friday nights at the Van Gogh Museum, which is open until 10 pm.

Tucked between the Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk Museum on Museumplein in Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum is easy accessible by foot if you’re already in the city centre. Ride tram 2 (towards NieuwSloten) or 5 (towards Amstelveen Binnenhof) from Central Station in the city to Van Baerlestraat. Walk northwest on Van Baerlestraat toward Willemsparkweg, then right on Paulus Potterstraat. Take another right on Willem Sandbergplein, then a left on Museumplein; the Van Gogh Museum is to the left. Be cautious on sidewalks because some pedestrian paths could be missing, you might feel like you’re a swirling cloud in one of Van Gogh’s paintings. The Netherlands public transport system has a journey planner website for detailed planning, as well as a several maps around the area.
