The Nuevo Vallarta Rundown
Nuevo Vallarta is a Mexican paradise. Located in the state of Nayarit, this resort town is a spectacle to behold, with its miles of winding canals, sparkling beaches, golf courses and entertainment areas. Nuevo Vallarta has something for everyone, from family friendly beach and water activities, to sailing, scuba diving and swimming, or if you’d prefer to stay dry, there’s an endless list of things to do on land. For the sporting enthusiast, there are three world-class golf courses stretching nearly the length of the town itself, or if it’s natural beauty you desire, horse riding through a tropical rainforest could be just the thing.
Situated about 20 kilometres (12.4 miles) northwest of Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta has become a quieter alternative for tourists since its establishment some decades ago. The miles of sandy beaches are perfect for relaxing, but if you’re craving a little adventure, book a whale watching tour, take the plunge and go scuba diving, or hire a sailing boat and see where the wind takes you. Cruise the canals and dock for great shopping, entertainment and nightlife. Nuevo Vallarta’s considered design makes it a pleasure to visit, and its exceptional tourist friendly attitude will relax your soul.
When To Go
Nuevo Vallarta enjoys a tropical climate, and as such remains temperate all year round. The summer averages are 31°C (89°F) and 24°C (76°F) high and low, and in winter it gets down to a high and low average of 26°C (80°F) and 16°C (62°F). The wet season is between June and October, but rain tends to fall mainly at night, so days are still sunny.
Winter is peak tourist season in Nuevo Vallarta, and prices tend to increase, so if you’re frugal, it could pay to visit late in the year when temperatures are perfect and prices are lower. The Bay of Banderas naturally protects Nuevo Vallarta from hurricanes, so they’re very scarce in this area.
- Winter and summer highs are 31°C (89°F) and 26°C (80°F) respectively.
- Rain falls mostly in the middle of the year.
- The Bay of Banderas protects Nuevo Vallarta from hurricanes.
Puerto Vallarta’s Gustav Diaz International Airport serves both cities, and lies between the two, around 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) from Nuevo Vallarta. Taxis and minibuses are plentiful to make the journey into town, or if you’d prefer to drive yourself, rental cars are available from the airport. When sightseeing, the best way to get around the city is by bus. They’re clearly marked and a highly entertaining mode of transport. Taxis are also common in Nuevo Vallarta, but fares increase at night. Boat cruises along the extensive canal system are a relaxing way to see the city.
- Gustav Diaz International Airport services both Nuevo Vallarta and Puerto Vallarta.
- Nuevo Vallarta’s bus system is inexpensive and reliable, though it’s known for its colourful and talented characters, so be prepared for entertainment.
- Hire a boat and cruise the canals, and stop at the shopping strip for souvenirs and entertainment.
