in need to refurbishment

Situated next to Komtar, this hotel is next to three shopping malls. It is on the outskirts of the heritage listed area and is certainly walkable. The hotel is quite an old style hotel but Club rooms have been well maintained. Note that the hotel has smoking rooms so you will need to specify if you are a non-smoker.

Central

We always make sure to spend a few nights at Hotel Jen (Traders) it is central to everything in Georgetown. We love exploring all the heritage listed sites and this last time was special as we did the street art tour. The trishaw operators out the front of the hotel are well worth the experience. Our operator was an absolute wealth of information. The hotel concierge is happy to assist with recommendations to help get the best out of your sightseeing experience. All the staff at Traders are absolutely the best. As we go to Penang twice a year and stay here and at the sister Hotel 'Golden Sands', we have gotten to know the staff quite well. The Traders Club staff are great. Being in close proximity of 2 good shopping Malls is also a huge plus when staying here. We love it and we'll be back again next year.

Perfect Short Break for couple

Frontline and Restn services excellent. Courteous, helpful, smiling faces, warm and pleasant. Must pre-booked, quite frequently reaches full capacity. Found out that Stay-in hotel guests enjoy a 25% discount on dinner.Hotel location central and very convenient with new and not so new shopping malls in the vicinity. Good walking exercise to hawker and local food venues like char kway teow and durians at Lorong Selamat, famous Teochew chendol and Penang laksa at Jalan Penang, chee cheong fun and char koay kak at Jalan Macalister (all within walking distance). Best is located near KOMTAR where free city shutter buses and Rapid Buses (max fare RM2.70?) are readily available. From outside Airport to Hotel (KOMTAR) just RM2.70 and to Gurney Plaza just RM1.40. Good choice. Free shuttle to and fro Golden Sands (Batu Ferringhi Beach).

Worth the price.

Requested for a non-smoking room however was apologetically given a smoking room as we had 'booked late' and there were no more non-smoking rooms available. That was a pretty bad start for us, as the rooms were pretty stinky for non-smokers like us. However, I must say that the rooms are very clean, the staff very polite and helpful. I guess if I had tried to make a fuss about it, they might upgrade our rooms. The location isn't too bad, near the modern shopping mall, 1st avenue, near Komtar area, lots of gold shops there, and technically within 30minutes walking distance of areas in Georgetown, if you don't mind walking. Free breakfast was very very nice. No pork or lard. For the price you are paying vs the other big hotels, I think this is definitely worth it.

Good Hotel in Excellent Location

I enjoyed my stay at Traders. Although it is showing its age and could do with some upgrading it offers good accommodation in a very good location. The rooms are comfortable with small bathrooms. My only criticism is that there is not a separate shower. The Club lounge can get busy but offers a relaxing area with attentive staff and is well catered. I also enjoyed breakfast in their restaurant. The staff were certainly friendly and offered us choices that we would not have normally selected. One dish was so good that we had it every day. The pool and gym area also very good and nice to enjoy each day. I would recommend Traders and will be staying there again when I next visit Penang.

Great Stay

We would recommend staying at Traders Penang, in the Traders Club rooms. One of the extras you get is personalised service - checking in and out, asking questions and bottled water available all day. This level also has free drinks (beers, wine, some spirits and softdrinks) with canapes (that are varied and tasty) every night from 6-8pm. This gives you the opportunity to meet other guests, which is not usual when you stay in hotels. The hotel is directly in front of the bus station - with buses being cheap (remember it's cash and no change is given). The hotel staff were wonderful, friendly and informative. My advice is to ask for information (maps, what to see...how to get there...by bus....) on chekcing in or soon after, so you can plan your trip. Don't forget to ask downstairs in lobby as well as they can offer different information. They are also linked with a hotel by the beach. Worth and trip with your bathers etc. and reading material, games.... Mr Foo, on the beach, offers cheap reflexology and massage. A very relaxing stay was had by us and we would recommend Traders, Penang.

Great Hotel

I enjoyed my stay at the Trader's Hotel. My room was well maintained and the staff members were helpful. The hotel has a pool and fitness center which I thought was great. I also liked the fact that the hotel was conveniently located. It was right next to the main bus terminal. That is very convenient for those who wish to take a bus to get to the airport or various attractions around the island.
