Gua Cerita hotels
It is a toss up whether people go to Langkawi's Gua Cerita to see the stacked, limestone caves or to sate their curiosity of the legends about the cave. The name Gua Cerita actually means "cave with a legend." Perhaps the most well-known, local legend involves a phoenix who opposed a marriage between the Roman and Chinese royal families and did many things to keep the union from occurring, including kidnapping the Chinese princess and hiding her in the cave. Some say there is a rock formation in the shape of a sleeping princess.
- Admire the old Arabic script etched into the walls of the lower cave, which dates back to 1754 AD and is said to be verses from the Koran.
- Take a tour of Langkawi’s Gua Cerita from Jungle Walla to hear more about the legends surrounding the cave, come to your own conclusions about its past, and see if you can see the sleeping princess formation within the rocks.
- Read about the legends of the most visited Langkawi cave in the Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa.
