Cave of Bats hotels
Cave of Bats
The Cave of Bats is a system of caves that is situated on the northeast of the island of Langkawi in Malaysia. The cave is aptly named, as it contains thousands of the flying rodents that cling to the ceiling of these limestone caves, making for a beautiful, albeit unsettling, sight. Bridges are now built so that visitors can walk the entirety of the Cave of Bats whilst in Langkawi, enjoying the natural rock formations and cave art, as well as the spooky presence of the squeaky flying friends that call the cave their home.
- Take a guided tour through the Cave of Bats with an expert guide from Langkawi to explain the different rock formations and also point out the ancient cave art.
- Hire a boat at the Kilim Jetty and take a boat tour of the Kilim River, where you can view the mangrove forests and many caves along the shore.
- Walk from Gua Kelawar onto the path that leads into the nearby mangrove forest, and you will be flanked by beautiful trees and may even see one of the eagles known to inhabit Langkawi.
Kuah, the largest town on Langkawi, is only about ten minutes away, so most people who visit the Cave of Bats start there. There are ferries that connect Langkawi with the mainland and it is easy to get transport from the dock to Kuah aboard local taxis. From there you can arrange a tour through your guesthouse, or just hire a driver to take you to the Cave of Bats. Tour guides and drivers are inexpensive and a great way to contribute to the Langkawi economy whilst getting an expert tour of the area.
