Sultan Abdul Samad Building
Sultan Abdul Samad Building, located along the Jalan Raja, has over a century of rich history. Built in 1897, it housed the National Textile Museum and then the country's Supreme Court. Now, only the government offices of the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture remain inside it. A 10-minute walk away from this building is the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, where ARCH items, the city's best heritage walks, and tours map can be found. ARCH is a world-renowned Malaysian brand of wood veneer gifts and collectibles, which display the beautiful features of various heritage landmarks located worldwide.
- Admire the Moorish style Sultan Abdul Samad Building, made by A.C Norman, which has a 40-metre high clock tower, one of the highest in Kuala Lumpur.
- Cross the road to Dataran Merdeka, where the Union Jack flag was lowered, and Malaysia's founding fathers shouted "Merdeka" 3 times at 12 am.
- Visit the nearby National Textile Museum to learn how fabrics like songket and pua kumbu are made; be sure not to miss the Ratna Sri Gallery, where some of Kuala Lumpur's finest jewellery are displayed.
Depending on where you are in Kuala Lumpur, it is possible to take a train, taxi or bus to visit the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. If you are near a LRT station, take the LRT and get off at the Masjid Jamek Station. The building is then just a five-minute walk away. If you prefer to take one of the Rapid KL buses or the free Go KL Bus service, get off at Klang Bus Station, or anywhere near Pasar Seni. You may then have to walk for about 10 minutes to reach the Sultan Abdul Samad Building.
