Masjid Jamek hotels
Masjid Jamek (Jamek Mosque) is one of the oldest mosques in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and is considered the birthplace of the city by some, as it sits on the area where the early settlers of the city first built their primitive dwellings. Masjid Jamek is situated at the point where the Klang and Gombak rivers come together, on the site of the first Malay burial ground. The beautiful red brick structure uses Moorish architecture and was completed in 1907 from a design by Arthur Bennison Hubback. Since 1965 this mosque has been the main centre for worship in the city.
- Stroll the grounds of Masjid Jamek along the banks of the Klang and Gombak rivers to enjoy the palm trees and tranquillity that offer a haven from the bustle of Kuala Lumpur.
- Come to Kuala Lumpur on a Friday to see the white clad worshippers heading for the mosque, an amazing parade that is worth the trip.
- Take a tour of the Masjid Jamek at a time without services and you will get to see the amazing red brick and marble architecture including the magnificent main prayer hall.
Kuala Lumpur has a vast system of public transportation, so it is not hard to get to Masjid Jamek without using a car. The easiest way to get there is to use the LRT and get off at the Masjid Jamek station that is just a short walk from the mosque. Those using the Kuala Lumpur Monorail should get off at the Hang Tuah station where there are transfers to the LRT. There are a number of interesting attractions nearby, including Chinatown and the Central Market, so getting around on foot is the best option once you reach the mosque.
