Fort Thungen hotels
Fort Thüngen is an historical fortification in the city of Luxembourg. Fort Thüngen was built in the year 1732 as an additional defence building. Most of the original fortresses were demolished after the London treaty that demanded the demolition of many of Luxembourg City's fortifications. All that remained after the demolition were the three towers and the foundations. In the 1960’s the fort was reconstructed in line with the original design. The reconstruction of the fort was done parallel with the site's development. The fort houses Mudam, which is the city's museum of modern art.
- See the Bock Casements, which are tunnels that were carved in the year 1644 by the Spaniards and later extended by the Austrians in the 18th century. The bock casements, together with Fort Thüngen, have been designated as world heritage sites in Luxembourg.
- Experience the Capuchin Theatre, which was originally built as a monastery and functioned as a monastery from 1623 to 1795.
- See Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge, which connects Luxembourg`s old town centre with the Kirchsberg Plateau located nearby.
Transport in Luxembourg City is mainly by road, rail, and air. Over the years, the road network in Luxembourg has been modernized and now there are different motorways to the adjacent countries. The introduction of the high speed TGV led to the renovation of the city’s railway station with a new terminal now at the airport. Therefore, to get to Fort Thüngen one can take a bus, train, or personal car. For those travelling by bus take number 1, 13, or 16 and alight at Philharmonie/Mudam. For those travelling by train board at Vel’oh Station and alight at Philharmonie.
