Needs complete renovation

We booked this hotel for two reason: first its brilliant background esp. in civil war and second for limited options with moderate price we had in Beirut. First night was not easy. the room was very old and similar to an old hostel and we felt ourselves in the middle of street. They changed the room after we insisted to a renovated much better room that fitted the hotel prestige. We had internet connection in room though with low speed. Satellite TV with more than 200 channels. The housekeeper was kind and all staff were polite. Rooms are small and busy. they should use two layer windows for sound protection. Reception needs renovation too. Breakfast was just better than nothing. I don't recommend this hotel to people who go Beirut to have an special stay.

A very pleasant place to stay,

A very pleasant place to stay, nice people, comfortable rooms, good breakfast, connexion to internet, cozy pub... Only the room making up was a little slow, just forget to have your room made in the morning if you hang around, but irrelevant when you leave the hotel for the the whole day. As a whole, I recommend it if you have a middle income. You will be happy with the value of your money!

Excellent location and well worth money since its quite cheap. Dont stay here if you're used to luxury cause you certainly wont experience that here. Staff were v.friendly and breakfast was nice

Well, well, well.. How to say.

Well, well, well.. How to say. unless you need to stay around the American University in Beirut, why would you want to stay in this area? Too far from downtown and too far from the Corniche (pidgeon rocks). maybe I had a bad day but the room I got was undescribable. Wish I could post pictures. Then again, better for the hotel like this. However I have to say internet connection was chargeable but very good. so no complaints here. Breakfast was good. Considering that Beirut is really expensive I give the pricing a "good", otherwise it would be way overpriced. Tried to arrange some trips with the service desk but I couldn't lose the feeling that they did get a hefty commission out of it and therefore they prefered to sell me utterly overpriced options. No bad feelings, but would I stay there again? I doubt, I wouldn't say no but too inconvenient.

A bit faded but scrupulously clean.

A bit faded but scrupulously clean. The bar is fantastic and I'd stay at the Mayflower again for that factor alone.

I would recommend Mayflower as

I would recommend Mayflower as a good place to stay for people traveling on vacation who want to explore Beirut and neighboring cities (like I did). The hotel is centrally located and compact so the receptionists can respond to your requests promptly and you don't have to wait in line like in big hotels (e.g. Crowne Plaza, Radisson, etc.). Food during buffet breakfasts was good. You can feel that the receptionists are very loyal to the hotel guests and care about them.
