Kamata, along with Omori, is one of two former city wards that make up Tokyo's Ota Ward, which is best known as the home of the city's busy Haneda Airport. This scenic suburb makes an excellent lodging base as it is just a short subway ride from central downtown, and yet the serene countryside provides a peaceful respite after a day of shopping and sight-seeing in this pulsing, vibrant city. The largest attraction in the immediate area is Tamagawa River, which is known to be one of the best places to see iconic Japanese Cherry Blossoms in glorious springtime bloom.
- Explore the city's lovely thirteenth century Ikegami Honmon-ji, a Buddhist temple complex featuring beautiful Ikegami Pagoda, a Buddhist scripture library, and the shrine and mausoleum of founder Nichiren Shōnin.
- Shop for trendy and classic Tokyo fashions, beauty products, and enjoy salon and spa services at Granduo Kamata department store, which also offers a variety of Japanese and international cuisine from eateries like Daikoku Ebisu, Natural Veggie Cafe Kuraju, and Vie de France.
- Visit pre-Tokyo historical sites like Senzuko Pond, where the famous thirteenth century Buddhist monk Nichiren supposedly bathed his feet.
Both Haneda Airport and Kamata Station are located in Ota, so air passengers can enjoy a speedy trip to the ward's urban centre via the Tokyo Monorail and Keikyu Airport Express trains, which normally take thirty to forty minutes, depending on traffic. Limousine buses provide fast transport from Haneda to central Tokyo as well. Visitors from other parts of Japan can use the high-speed Shinkansen trains, also called “bullet trains”, or one of the many JR trains or long-distance buses to arrive in this neighbourhood. The Tokyu Ikegami and Tamagawa and JR Keihin-Tohoku Lines serve the Kamata and Omori stations.
