Beautiful place with a view

This is a lovely lovely hotel with great service, and a location that is walking distance to Path of Philosophy and many other attractions in Kyoto. The room is beautiful and spacious and the staff are polite and lovely. The room I was assigned overlooks a cemetery, so if you are uncomfortable with that kind of stuff, maybe you may want to request a room change, though I was alright with it. The only quibble I have is that it is quite a distance from Kyoto Station so if you have an early train to catch it may be expensive to get there by cab.

A great and comfortable hotel

The hotel stay was great. Staff were very helpful and really friendly. What I don't get is why you have to pay for gym and pool when in other Asian countries it's all included for guests... I had to pay for gym for example. This is not an air Asia hotel i.e tune hotels. You should get all amenities included.

Comfortable and convenient

We found this hotel to be in a convenient location for accessing both the downtown and temple areas. We like to walk so 20 minutes or so to the Gion area was not a problem. The subway is a few minutes away, which we used when we wanted to get back to the hotel quickly, or when we headed off to the Gion for dinner. The room was very clean and comfortable - excellent value for the rate we paid.

Luxury Hotel NOT directly at the main station, but very goog

The hotel is very good, closely located to the Keage Subway station, down the road is a Lawsons (like 7eleven), but for going out you need to walk a bit (Gion is about 20 min on foot). Watch out, some search machines locate the Westin Miyako right at the Kyoto Shinkanzen train station - this is NOT the case, there is a hotel shuttle that links the two locations, but on average the shuttle needs about 20 minutes for the ride (for free). There are some sights really nearby the hotel and the Nijo castle is only about 4 stops from keage station.

Beautiful Hotel

This was the best hotel we stayed in Japan over 10 days and 5 different places. Large room and pleasant view onto the gardens. Staff were very helpful and friendly. A bit expensive to eat in their restaurants but it was an easy walk into Kyoto city with local restaurants nearby. Taxis were reasonable to the main part of Kyoto.

Dated hotel in good location

Hotel is very dated. We were in Japan 3 weeks and this was the smallest bathroom we had. Our room was incredibly hot. When we asked why the "air conditioning" button on the wall didn't seem to be doing anything we were informed that the section of the hotel we were staying in is not air conditioned! Makes the dial on the wall labelled "air conditioning" rather pointless. This was only March so I would not want to be staying here in Summer. Guest Services staff member was quite unhelpful - we asked her for directions to a number of tourist spots and she simply handed us a copy of a map! Check in staff were courteous. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, the room was clean and there are a number of nice casual restaurants close to the hotel. The free shuttle bus to the train station was also great.

Good location

This was our second stay ay this hotel. The location is great, 5 min walk from the philisopher's walk trail and many temples, 30 min walk from Gion. We got a good discount on the net so the value was great. Shuttle bus to/from the station and Gion is a bonus. It is a nice hotel but the bathrooms are getting a bit dated. Staff were efficient but not overly friendly. Restaurants and bars close very early (around 10pm), but there are many other places to eat and drink in Kyoto. All in all, if you get a good deal it's a great base to explore the wonderful city of Kyoto. Ask for a room facing the city or the Japanese garden - will make a huge difference.

Average for 5 stars

If you know you can catch shuttle bus from Kyoto Stn to hotel. Front staff efficient but could be more friendly. Room was lovely but everything from else from using an iron to swimming pool/wifi use etc is an add-on where one would expect to be included. Iwasgien complimentary breakfast vouchers as it was my birthday which was nice. As hotel is little way out of city centre I would reccommend somewhere like the Okura before returning to this hotel. The walking trail behind hotel is great to exlore & fabulous view over north Kyoto.
