Rialto Bridge hotels
Of the bridges that span the Grand Canal in Venice, the Rialto Bridge is the most famous, as it is one of the crowning achievements in architecture and engineering of the Renaissance. The Rialto Bridge features a broad rectangular deck that carries two arcades of shops supported by a stone arch designed by Antonio da Ponte in the late 16th century. When first built, architects criticized its bold design and predicted the bridge would not last, but the Rialto Bridge has stood the test of time and has become an iconic architectural landmark in Venice, Italy.
- Have coffee in one of the trendy cafes surrounding the Rialto Bridge and watch the boats on the Grand Canal transport passengers around Venice.
- Stroll across the central walkway of the Rialto Bridge and stop at the small shops selling beautiful Murano glass made by local Venetian artists.
- Cruise in a vaporetto (water bus) along the Grand Canal where you can take up close pictures of the Rialto Bridge as well as the many historical buildings that flank the canal.
The Rialto Bridge is tough to miss, as it is one of the central features of Venice and included in almost any tour of the city. The closest train station is the Piazzale Roma, just a short walk from the bridge. The bridge is also within walking distance of the Piazza San Marco, making it a great area to explore on foot. The Rialto Bridge is easily accessible from the Venice Marco Polo Airport via direct shuttle bus, or private water taxi.
