Venice is easy to navigate using the vast public transportation system that winds throughout the city. From the Venice Marco Polo Airport you may take the waterbus directly into the Venice city centre. From the main train station you can catch a gondola ride or a water taxi that goes through the dense network of canals. Although gondolas are a slow, romantic way to get to Palazzo Ducale, they are mostly used by tourists and are usually much more expensive than the taxis used by locals. The streets along the Grand Canal are free of traffic and perfect for scenic strolls.
