Palazzo Ducale hotels
The Venetian Gothic Palazzo Ducale, also known as Doge’s Palace, is one of the main historic attractions in Venice, Italy. The Palazzo Ducale has a rich history that began in the 9th century when construction of the palace was ordered by Doge Angelo Partecipazio. The structure was destroyed and rebuilt many times during the Middle Ages, and then again in the 17th century when it was connected to the local prisons by the famous Bridge of Sighs. The structure was later converted into a museum in the 1920’s, and since then the stylish white stone archways have welcomed millions of visitors.
- Stroll around the courtyard of the Palazzo Ducale to see two well heads that date back to 16th century Venice at the centre of the courtyard.
- See masterpieces of 14th and 15th century Venetian sculpture in the Museo dell’Opera room at the Palazzo Ducale, which features an area set aside for restored pieces of the original façade of the palace.
- Get transported back to 16th century Venice on a tour of the many ornately frescoed rooms Doge’s Apartments.
Venice is easy to navigate using the vast public transportation system that winds throughout the city. From the Venice Marco Polo Airport you may take the waterbus directly into the Venice city centre. From the main train station you can catch a gondola ride or a water taxi that goes through the dense network of canals. Although gondolas are a slow, romantic way to get to Palazzo Ducale, they are mostly used by tourists and are usually much more expensive than the taxis used by locals. The streets along the Grand Canal are free of traffic and perfect for scenic strolls.
