Villa Borghese hotels
The Villa Borghese is a scenic and historic destination in Rome full of culture, beauty, and knowledge, just as its original creator intended it to be. Originally built by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V in 1605, it became open to the public in 1903. Visit the expansive gardens and you will find lovely buildings, museums, and other attractions. The Villa Borghese garden is the second largest park in Rome at approximately 148 acres, and receives thousands of visitors every year. The Villa also has art to admire, a lake for swimming and picnicking, museums, and much more to appreciate. Formerly a vineyard, the Villa was built by the Italian architect Flaminio Ponzio, but based on drawings by the Cardinal Borghese himself.
- Visit the extensive art collections of the Galleria Borghese, which include a large portion of the art collections originally owned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese in the 17th century.
- Relax by the lake of the "Temple of Aesculapius, a building modelled after an ancient Roman temple.
- See the replica of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre at the centre of the park.
The city of Rome is served by the Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport. To get to the Villa Borghese, take the Metro subway Line A to Plaza del Popolo. From there it is a short walk to your destination. Buses 52, 53, 217, and 920 all go to Villa Borghese. If you’re traveling late in the day, you might have to take a taxi. Once at the Villa you will enjoy getting around on foot and visiting the many attractions of the park, though there is a small park train that goes to different parts of the grounds. Most tourists find that walking or bicycling is the easiest way to get around, as well as the park train that circles the grounds.
