Porta Portese hotels
Porta Portese is perhaps Rome’s most bustling flea market, drawing thousands of visitors year after year from all around the world. Frequenting admirers and local alike agree the market’s primary draw is its sheer breathtaking size, as the market features over four thousands individual and unique vendors selling all kinds of local goods, such as antiques, literature, original artwork, textiles, and furniture. Because many local sellers are open to bargaining, locals and visitors alike have made Porta Portese a famous hotspot for bargaining and unbeatable deals. The Porta Portese market is, in ways, exclusive, only open on Sundays from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM. As such, travellers should arrive early in order to avoid crowds and bargain first for the best in local Roman goods.
- Admire high-quality copies of Italian masterpieces at one of Porta Portese’s inimitable art vendor stands.
- Enjoy classic Roman cuisine from one of the local vendors selling wares at the extensive food markets featured at Porta Portese.
- Visit the Porta Portese gate, located near the market in Rome, which was built in the mid-1600s by Pope Urban VIII.
Visitors flying into Rome typically land at Leonardo da Vinci/Fiumicino International Airport. From there, passengers should board the Leonardo Express train, which leaves every half hour, in order to reach the city centre. Getting to Porta Portese is also easy via the area’s famously efficient public transportation. The city’s extensive Metro train system runs through all major areas, and visitors can also take the Metro B train to the Marconi exit and transfer to bus number 170 in order to access the market. Additionally, travellers may take the B train to bus number 280.
