Forum Boarium hotels
The Forum Boarium is the oldest forum in all of Rome, dating all the way back to the Roman Republic. In the 6th century BC, the Etruscan King Servius Tullius built a port here, which led to it becoming one of the busiest commercial areas for trade and pedestrians in entire republic. Today, it is well known for its temples that have been converted into Christian churches. Visitors will marvel at these ancient buildings that have been extremely well preserved. Travellers are welcome at the Forum Boarium at any time of day.
- Grab some lunch at one of the many nearby restaurants before going to see the great Temple of Hercules Victor; this is considered to be the oldest marble temple in Rome.
- Spend some time in the shade that the Temple of Portunus offers to its guests; here, you can relax and think about the ancient history of Rome and this great structure.
- Walk over to the nearby Santa Maria church, which houses the Mouth of Truth, a structure that once resided in the Forum Boarium.
The Forum Boarium is a behemoth that covers a large square of the area near the Tiber River, on Piazza della Bocca della Verita. It is recommended that visitors try to get here by foot because traffic is typically quite congested. Travellers can also rent a vespa to get to the Forum. The Metro and the bus system are good options for those who aren’t as comfortable driving a vespa. The Forum Boarium is always open and does not cost any money, so travellers can stop by this important building at any time of day.
