Celio, the nineteenth district of Rome, Italy, is the place to go for some of the best sights in the city. Check out the Villa Celimontana, a vineyard back in the day and now a villa which boasts a beautiful garden with a plentitude of trees and ancient marble. After a leisurely stroll through the gardens, you are going to want to check out the San Giovanni a Porta Latina church. Still have time on your hands? Walking through the Celio will take you to some famous sights, including the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine.
- The Celio district of Rome, Italy, is home to many churches including the Santa Maria in Domnica, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Basilica dei Santi Quattro Coronati, a fourteenth century church.
- Check out the Ludus Magnus, used for gladiator performances and connected to the Colosseum by an underground passage.
- The Parco Del Celio Rome is home to some of the most beautiful gardens, and this one is considered to be one of the best botanical gardens.
Getting to the Celio district from almost anywhere in Rome is simple. If travelling by car, hop on the Autostrada A1, A2, A24 to the Grand Ringroad and get off at exit N. 23 Via Appia-Rome Centro. Or, after taking a train and getting off at Stazione Termini, just grab one of the reputable taxis out front and make your way to the Celio district. Finally, taking the Linea Blu (the Blue Line) on the underground and getting off at the Metro Station Colosseo will get you there just as easily.
