Baths of Caracalla hotels
Baths of Caracalla
The Baths of Caracalla are breathtakingly unique ruins in Rome once publicly open to citizens around 217 AD. The bath’s plans were concocted by Septimius Severus though the structures weren’t finally constructed until the reign of Emperor Caracalla. The massive architectural pieces include large archways and ornate decoration that have often been replicated by modern buildings worldwide. This one-of-a-kind complex, which was destroyed in the 6th century, was really more of a public leisure centre with its library and ancient gym for boxing. Today, the ruins are a major holiday attraction in Rome, as the stunning baths are open for viewings.
- Explore the exterior of the magnificent ruins of the Baths of Caracalla to get a true idea of the size and grandeur of the ancient structure, one of the most impressive in all of Rome.
- Tour the interior of the baths, where visitors will find a series of amazing sculptures—many of them replicas—hidden throughout the enclaves and small coves in the walls.
- Visit Rome in the summer when the Baths of Caracalla are home to a series of outdoor concerts, including performances of the famous Teatro dell’Opera.
The Baths of Caracalla are located just south of the Colosseum in central Rome, making them easy to access via various forms of public transportation as well as on foot. The baths are often included on historical walking tours of Rome, which visitors should take advantage of as they provide fascinating insight on the historical and cultural significance of these inimitable structures. Visitors travelling along the Metro Line B should get off at the Circo Massimo station, which is located within a short walking distance to the bath complex.
