Porta Venezia

Porta Venezia served as one of the gates of the city in historical Milan, Italy. Its structure can be traced as far back as the Roman period. Its current name (“Venice Gates”) was given in the nineteenth century. It consists of two twin buildings which functioned as customs agencies back in the day. Today, there are still statues of Roman deities adorning both buildings. For those interested in investing serious time in the thousands of historical monuments and structures in beautiful Milan, they should seriously consider the Porta Venezia as part of their city tour.

  • Porta Venezia is close some of the best hotels in Milan—try the Sheraton Diana located close-by, a majestic building with five-star services.
  • Walk one block south, across Bastioni di PortaVenezia and into the park, to venture into the Galleria d’Arte Moderna, a modern art gallery in Milan.
  • Visit the Biblioteca PortaVenezia, another location rich with heritage classic architecture that is another perfect example of the balance of elegance and usefulness that defined the period.

If you are a tourist, the easiest way to commute in Milan is via train, especially if you are at the Malpensa International Airport. The Porta Venezia area still practically functions as a gateway of sorts, as it is the location of several mainline transport stations such as the Milan Metro, tram, and trains. All three services have a stop right at the Porta Venezia. The Palestro stop is the closest metro station. A taxi or rental car might be an option, as the main airport is a long way away from the city centre. It is recommended to walk the streets of this great historical Italian city to appreciate the culture and tradition here.
