Teatro Verdi hotels
The Teatro Verdi opened in 1854, though the history of the theatre has not been all red carpets and roses. The location, prior to being a theatre, was actually a prison. While still a new facility, a fire in 1865 and a flood in 1966 almost destroyed the Teatre Verdi, and so the building had to undergo renovations to keep up with safety standards. Presently, this well-known Florence theatre hosts a large selection of performance art to entertain its many local and international guests. Film premiers, operas, ballets, concerts, theatre performances, and conventions make this theatre stand out among others in historic Florence.
- Seek out special event times when the Friends of Verdi put on performances from Giuseppe Verdi’s prestigious repertoire, the man after whom this Florence theatre was named.
- Purchase a ticket for the tour of four Verdi sites in Florence including his Roncole, Casa Barezzi, Villa Verdi, and Teatro Verdi, to learn more about his life and works.
- Explore the architecture of the theatre mostly made of box seats: many of which you cannot see the stage from.
To get to Teatro Verdi from within Florence, take the train to Frienze Santa Maria Novella Station, which will get you close enough for a taxi ride or a nice walk. You can also take the city bus to Viale Giovine, a stop just a few blocks from Teatro Verdi. From there, it is a short walk to Matteo Palmieri and your awaiting performance or tour. Taxis are common but the streets are narrow and quite busy. Place a free call for a taxi at the end of the show through the steward near the box office. For those driving rented or personal cars, there are several car parks nearby.
