Shannon Airport hotels
Shannon Airport in Shannon, Ireland, offers services through United Airlines, Aer Lingus, Ryanair, and British Airways. It’s an easy distance from many of western Ireland’s greatest attractions, including Galway and the Cliffs of Moher. The Shannon Airport itself is rich in history. It was built in 1942, and was Ireland’s first transatlantic airport. Shannon became the gateway between America and Ireland in the years following. It now has Ireland’s longest runway, designated as one of the landing spots for the space shuttle. The airport is a modern, spacious building, with free Internet available.
- After security, you’ll be sent through The Loop, the perfect place to spend your last euros in a shop full of wine, souvenir clothing, luxury gifts, and other knick knacks, including merchandise from the surrounding Shannon area.
- Wait for your flight in The Sheridan Food Pub, enjoying the free Internet access with an eye on a nearby monitor that will keep you on time for your flight.
- If you are arriving in Ireland through the Shannon Airport, consider adding Shannon itself to your list of destinations and tour Bunratty Castle, the most intact medieval fortress in Ireland.
Getting to and from the Shannon Airport is stress-free. Long term and short term parking lots are at the airport. A variety of alternatives are available for those without a car, too. Car hire is an option, with eight car companies represented. There is also a Bus Éirann stop and timetable just outside, though tickets and timetables are also available online. Five bus routes stop at Shannon Airport, so there will be a bus about every fifteen minutes. Or you can order a taxi to pick you up if you are going to a nearby location, like Shannon or Limerick.
