Trinity College hotels
With a history reaching back to the late 16th century, Trinity College boasts a rich heritage as the oldest university in Ireland, and it carries status as one of the British Isles' most ancient universities. Also named the University of Dublin, this establishment is the keeper of The Book of Kells, an ancient set of sacred volumes from the 9th century. More than 500,000 people visit Trinity College every year, and have done so since the mid-1800s, just to view this amazingly beautiful relic. Curators update the exhibition regularly, displaying selected text and illustrations.
- Explore fascinating scientific exhibits at Dublin University's brilliant Science Gallery, which offers ever-changing displays highlighting chemistry, technology, human behaviour, and many other fields of scientific study and application.
- View contemporary art at Douglas Hyde Gallery, which features rotating exhibits of work from celebrated Irish artists as well as cultural displays from around the world.
- Enjoy a production by the Trinity College Department of Drama at Samuel Beckett Theatre, and, if your timing is right, catch the Dublin Theatre Festival or one of the other grand cultural events hosted there.
The Dublin Airport in Swords is only twelve kilometres from Trinity College using the N1, and airport transportation options include the Aircoach and Dublin Bus express services and taxis, which may be cheaper than the bus for those travelling in groups. Getting around Trinity College is quite easy on foot or by bicycle, and the city offers plenty of public transportation options such as the Luas tram and light rail lines, the DART suburban rail, and public bus. Driving in the city centre is not recommended due to traffic and one-way streets, making park-and-ride lots very popular.
