St Patricks Cathedral hotels
St Patricks Cathedral
This awe-inspiring cathedral was built in 1191 in Dublin in honour of Saint Patrick, Ireland's patron saint, and is located next to the well where it is believed he baptized converts when he was going to Dublin. It is an historical site, with beautiful stained glass and architecture. This is still a working church with regular services for the faithful. St Patricks Cathedral is the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland, and hosts the ceremonies for national Remembrance Day. No matter what your faith, make this cathedral one of the things you see when you visit Dublin.
- Explore the Dublin cemeteries at St Patricks Cathedral, and try to find some of the famous who have been buried there, including Jonathan Swift.
- Listen to the amazing organ, the largest in Ireland, and enjoy the musicianship of the organists who are truly great artists, not just church organists.
- Take a guided tour of St Patricks Cathedral and be spellbound by both the history of the cathedral as well as awed by the majestic architecture and brilliant stained glass in the heart of Dublin.
St Patricks Cathedral is on the corner of Patrick Street and Upper Kevin Street. Should you already be in the centre of the city, you can easily walk there. The bus routes are either from Eden Quay, lines 49, 49A, 54A, or from Trinity College, lines 77 and 77A. Taxis are not overpriced and they are quite plentiful. You can get them from a taxi stand or call the company directly. Driving is possible but discouraged as the traffic is heavy and parking is difficult. Besides, walking is the best way to get around Dublin.
