Dingle General Information

The Dingle Peninsula is a magnetic destination in Ireland and a famously beautiful swath of the Emerald Isle at that. The County Kerry village of Dingle is the primary and truthfully, only community on the peninsula and spans the westernmost point in the country. Home to about 2,000 people, the small town swells well beyond that number every summer, as countless visitors come to enjoy incomparable peninsula panoramas. In spite of the hordes who flock to Dingle to enjoy traditional Irish music in the pubs and mill in the numerous arts and crafts shops, copious charm is on hand in and outside of town.

The word “idyllic” is not out of place in Dingle, which is precisely why it elicits so much attention. The peninsula landscape is unspoilt, for the most part, and the Dingle coastline feels a lot like the edge of the world. From the dramatic Conor mountain pass to the Blasket Islands, Dingle is a gateway to the picture-postard fairy tale Ireland that inhabits the dreams of so many travellers. Worthwhile attractions and landmarks in the vicinity of town include the Oceanworld aquarium, Dunberg Fort and Corca Dhuibhne Museum, which documents the legacy of a prehistoric kingdom familiar to fans of traditional Irish seanchaí lore.
