Known as Kota Hujan or ‘City of Rain’, Bogor experiences over 320 thunderstorms a year, which means you can expect to a) get wet and b) miss out on a bit of sleep. It’s all in a good cause, though, because experiencing Bogor means experiencing traditional Indonesia, with the culture and charm that the rest of the country seems sadly intent on overdeveloping away.
Originally the Dutch summer capital of Indonesia, Bogor has since come into its own as a thriving and beautiful regional city. The Sempur Markets are filled with local produce and a great introduction to the region, while De Daunan is the perfect spot to have a cocktail and watch the sky burst. If you’re feeling a bit more active, check out the Citarik River– it’s incredible for white-water and clear-water rafting year-round.
