Nestled in the heart of Bali is the small town of Ubud, which is considered the cultural centre of Bali. Ubud, whose name is derived from the Balinese word for medicine, was first known as a source of medicinal plants and herbs. The town is now full of artists’ shops and galleries, and there are plenty of architectural delights to be enjoyed as well. Though it appears to be one town, Ubud actually consists of fourteen different small villages. Overall, the climate, culture, and atmosphere of the town make it a welcoming, serene place to be.
