Because of its amazing white sand beaches and great weather, Denpasar, the capital of Bali is well known as one of the best tourist destinations in the world. Denpasar has gone to great lengths to preserve its natural beauty, even though the area’s population has rapidly exploded to over two million residents, not including the flower bloused tourists that roam the beaches. Denpasar is suffering through some growing pains as Bali becomes an enduringly popular worldwide tourist attraction while the number of rice fields in the area have decreased significantly to accommodate the construction of new buildings and hotels. While its beaches might be spectacular, a closer look may be taken at the crafts, food and local art abundantly available all around Debpasar.
- Buy Batik cloth and silk at the numerous of small shops that abound in Denpasar.
- Relax and sunbathe at Sanur Beach in Denpasar, which is known for having calm and beautiful waters.
- Badang Central Market in Denpasar is a great place to shop early in the day to get a taste of local colour amidst the visual feast of food and handicraft stalls.
Denpasar International Airport is located about thirteen kilometres away from the town of Denpasar. To get into Denpasar travellers can opt for private cars or taxis and the journey will only take about twenty minutes depending on the traffic. Ubung is the main bus station in Denpasar and travellers can catch buses to many locations in Bali, and it is also the most popular way to get to Java. Getting around Denpasar presents several options. Even though it can be hot and polluted, it is still best to get around by foot, or bemo, which is a local minivan, if the person can figure out the confusing routes. Some adventurous folks rent bicycles and some even opt for motorbikes to get around.
