Terrific trip & hotel

Excellent hotel with a 20 minute brisk walk to the centre of town. Large bedroom with big comfy bed. Tea & coffee in the room, great. Good sized bathroom with shower & bath. Very good breakfast. We had dinner a couple of nights we were there, buffet both times. Again very good although the service the second night was rather slow but we were not in a hurry. We hired a car from Procars which the hotel organised. They were fantastic. We rented a Gps system with travel suggestions again great and much cheaper than going on organised tours although there were 4 of us. Fantastic island to visit & so much to see. Would highly recommend Iceland & the Grand Hotel.

Our stay was ok...but not extraordinary as we had hoped.

The hotel seems nice, but we were in the older renovated section. The room was a nice size, but the water smelled of sulpher. It did not taste like anything but water, but the smell was difficult to get past and the smell lingered in my hair the whole time we were there. The bed was a King which was nice, but it was very hard and uncomfortable. Maybe I'm spoiled by the American Hotel beds, or maybe we just had a "cheap" room. The buffet breakfast was quite good for the first two days...but it did not change at all and we were there for 5 nights...so it became tiresome and boring. We had daily adventues in Reykjavik and actually got married on the last day we were there! The hotel is fairly close to the downtown area. The restaurant is nice, but very pricy. Unfortunately all the food is expensive in Reykjavik, but it is a city, so that is somewhat expected. We stayed in a different hotel last year and I believe we will stay in a different one on our next trip. I would recommend this hotel if staying in the new addition. Don't get into the older section. Not sure about the smell of water in the other side, but it can't be worse than what we had.

The hotel rooms and staff were excellent, helpful and very friendly! They arranged tours, helped us find fun things to do and were very pleasant! The location is a little away from downtown-which is no problem during the summer, but we were there in Jan, so the walk into downtown was a WEE BIT brisk. However, we enjoyed the scenery and discovered a good grocery store nearby. The public pool is nearby too. The view of downtown and the glaciers gliding in were worth staying the the tower. Breakfast and hardy and the coffee was delicious. I did try the mysterious bottle of "fish oil stuff" on the buffet. I think it was cod-liver oil. Never again. We had a great time, Iceland is beautiful and the hotel was superb! THANKS

A modern comfortable hotel - but

A modern comfortable hotel - but about 20 mins walk from the city centre. Askur's Brasserie (near the Hilton Hotel) was good for meals, especially on Sunday evenings. Hotel had a happy hour between 5.00 and 6.00 each evening which was just as well! Otherwise £5.00+ for a pint. Staff very helpful. Good breakfast - even at 04.30. Would stay here again.
