Begin your tour of the city on foot, and take in the long and layered history through its architecture. Visit the City Hall, a stunning Neoclassical building with an Italian marble square, boasting Baroque gardens lit wonderfully at night. Art and culture connoisseurs will enjoy the City Art Museum and the Xantus Museum, both offering a dynamic view into the city’s rich artistic past. Finally, the Gothic Dóczy Chapel and Győr Carmelite Church are not to be missed. Both buildings embody the area’s distinct range of architectural style, which blends Gothic and Baroque architecture with surreal European modernism. End your pleasurable day with supper at an atmospheric café serving up traditional Hungarian foods and desserts.
The city is located along the M1 motorway, easily accessible by car from Budapest or Vienna, or you can fly into the Ferihegy Airport, and from there intercity trains run quite often during the day and are fairly comfortable.
