Great Affordable Hotel

I have stayed at this hotel before. And I would say, that the rooms are still spacious. Compared to other affordable hotels, Ramada offers more space. They also have free wi fi (no password needed in the room), and wi fi (password required) in the lobby, the receptionist would just ask for your room number. It is need the MTR (HKU Station), bus, and tram. Also accessible by taxi.

Great week in Hong Kong

The hotel was great and, providing you are familiar with Octopus Card and the numerous public transport options in Hong Kong, the location was also very good. The tram is right outside the door - very convenient for a very slow view of bustling HK. HKU and Sai Ying Pun stations are a short walk in each direction. The staff were helpful. The room had everything needed and was quite spacious for HK. The only problem was the bed. It was solid! The mattress was so firm I wondered if the floor might not be a better option :)

good location and comfortable

It was a good experience to stay in the Ramada Hongkong! Room was nice, view amazing, location great, only the breakfast was disappointing (room without windows, no quality of food), all in all I would recommend this hotel!

One night stopover

Upgraded to 28th floor Executive Suite. Excellent views out of windows - being a corner suite I had great views looking out across the harbour and to the west. Hazy conditions meant the distant views were a bit hard to see which was a bit disappointing - but obviously not anything the hotel can do anything about... My room was HUGH - with separate lounge that could comfortably seat 5, plus 4 chairs around a dining table. Kitchinette area has a fridge with the mini-bar and a kettle with tea, instant coffee and powdered milk. Lounge had a 3-seater couch, two arm chairs and TV. Bedroom had a double bed (very comfortable), writing desk, TV, wardrobe (with safe inside). En suite toilet and shower was clean and plenty of hot water available. The suite also has a second toilet in a small room just inside the door to the suite. The room was very quiet with very little traffic noise heard, and nothing heard from any other rooms - I didn't even hear the loud 'Ding' from the lifts arriving on the floor. The room was pleasantly warm - not too hot or too cold - and a great bed made for a wonderful full night's sleep - just what was needed after a 12 hour flight and before another 13 hours travelling. Shops nearby were open late (where I got milk from). The hotel was easy to get to - using the A12 bus from the airport - busses run every 20 mins. (See travel tip) If you pay for breakfast at the front desk before hand you get a 20 - 50 discount. I was a little bit disappointed with breakfast - only had ham instead of bacon - but felt I got value for money. The only things the room didn't have that might have been useful was a microwave in the kitchenette area or an iron & ironing board in the bedroom - they do offer a dry-cleaning service for longer staying guests. All in all I was very pleased with my stay - from the friendly greetings at the front desk on arriving, all the way through my stay - to a smooth checking out - The conceirge even asked me if I was going straight to the airport or would I like to leave my bags for a few hours and go and explore a bit more before heading to the airport. I look forward to my next visit to Hong Kong so I can stay here again.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Catch the A12 bus from the International Airport ($HK 45 to hotel) and get off at Water Street which is the 2nd stop after the tunnel under the harbour. This stop is only about 50m from the hotel. I got off the stop before on Des Voyeux Rd West and had to walk an extra 200m - Bus back to Airport goes from same bus stop and costs $HK 40 - busses run every 20 mins. This was cheaper than the train (at $HK100 each way) and avoids transferring to the free shuttle from the Hong Kong Central Station. Also the famous Hong Kong Trams run directly past the Hotel - Get on to the tram via the back doors and pay on exiting the tram regardless of the distance travelled - $HK 2.30 - note that you need exact change as the drivers cannot give any change back. (They will happily take more than the $2.30 though!!! - I paid $5)

Comfortable hotel in the real Hong Komg

Located in an area convenient to transport and surrounded by the family-owned stores that are quickly disappearing, the Ramada offers comfort at a reasonable price. The ever-obliging, helpful staff helped to make my stay a memorable one. Although the decor is dated, it is well worth the experience for those travellers who are seeking to explore the real Hong Kong.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

A wide variety of local restaurants are nearby. In addition to Starbucks (about 50 metres to the west.), there are many coffee bars in Water Street. The Derby West Pub is frequented by locals and by expats.
