Sendling is a borough of Munich, Germany, located just southwest of the city centre. This area has a rather dubious reputation, as it is mainly known for the massacre called Sendling’s Night of Murder that took place in 1705. Now, it is a residential borough with plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and shopping options. This borough is also known as one of the most diverse areas of Munich, as there are many foreign residents here. This brings a multi-cultural feel to the neighbourhood as well as plenty of ethnic eateries.
- Stroll through Westpark in Sendling and explore the well-manicured paths flanked by plants, offering a great way to escape from the bustle of Munich.
- Check out the Wholesale Market Munich to find great bargains on fruits and vegetables (and just about everything else); this is one of the largest markets in all of Europe.
- Eat fresh organic food in a 50’s décor restaurant at WirtschaftsWunderBar, a trendy hangout in Sendling that is popular among local students and has a great outdoor terrace.
Sendling is a major transportation hub in Munich, so you will have no problem getting there using the city’s superb public transportation system. There is a large public square called Harras at the neighbourhood’s centre, which acts as a hub for both the U-bahn and the S-bahn. Thus, the easiest way to get here is to use one of the trains and get off at the Harras station. Several suburban lines that connect Sendling to the outer suburbs of Munich also run out of the Harras station, and there are also regional services to other cities in Germany.
