Royal Residence hotels
Munich, Germany’s Royal Residence is located in the centre of the city and is a well-loved tourist attraction, especially by first-timers. The first structures on these grounds were erected in 1385,as a palace for Duke Stephan III. The Royal Residence became the home for rulers, each of which added onto and put their own stamp on the complex. Duke Ludwig III was responsible for modernizing the Royal Residence with electricity, plumbing, and heat. It became a museum for the city of Munich in 1920. The palace was almost destroyed during World War II; luckily, this national icon was rebuilt and proudly displays many amazing culture treasures.
- See the Royal Residence’s Antiquarium, a long, massive hallway that is intricately decorated with statues on seemingly every square inch of its walls bordering a beautifully painted ceiling.
- Visit the Royal Residence’s Residenz Museum, which displays treasures that were spared Munich’s devastation in World War II, such as a large porcelain collection, tapestries, and paintings.
- Stroll through the Court Garden, adjacent to the Royal Residence, which is one of Munich’s most popular outdoors spaces, with its pavilion, war memorial and seventeenth century style flower gardens.
Munich’s International Airport accommodates domestic and international flights. The city’s Hauptbahnhof, or main train station, sees arrivals from Germany and Europe. The city is also very well-situated for vehicle traffic, being at the centre of an Autobahn Ring that leads to various highways. Within Munich, public transportation consists of subway, tram, train, and bus. These systems make up a well-integrated network that reaches most all parts of the city. The Royal Residence is near the Odeonsplatz station, which is served by subway and bus. The central area, where the Royal Residence is located, is an easily walkable district.
